Tony Finn the proprietor of the Worsley Arms is a qualified Master Sommelier and has been involved with wine for over 30 years.
Throught his network of contacts he arranges frequent wine evenings for guests to enjoy. These evenings take many different forms from straight forward tastings to tutored tastings over dinner in the company of the winemaker. Non-wine events can also (occasionally) make an appearance!

Over the years we have welcomed wine makers from many regions, some that trip off the tongue, others more obscure, but never in 17 years at Hovingham or in 30 years of organising wine events have WE hosted an evening dedicated to the wines of Uruguay, the fourth biggest producer in South America.
Our guest will be Diego Perez, brand ambassador for leading producer Establecimiento Juanico. They have over 500 acres of vineyards cultivated under strict sustainable practices. During his long involvement with Uruguayan wine, Diego launched the first online wine store in Uruguay and developed an in depth knowledge of the vineyards, the wine makers and their individual styles.
He will be presenting a selection of wines made from familiar varieties including some stunning Tannat, a vine that is seen as the poor relation in many regions but has flourished in Uruguay.

We recently had a visit from Nick Stafford one of the finest independent brewers around. Based just outside Thirsk, Nick has been supplying beer to the hotel for over 20 years.
He visited the day after a Supper Club and when he saw the menu our discussion moved on to the art of matching food and wine, and why not beer? He asked, I had no answer, so the idea was born!
For this special dinner we will be matching each course with one of Nick's hand crafted ales, from a range he specially created to accompany food.
To keep to the 'wineless' theme, we will be starting the evening with a tasting featuring 'Masons Yorkshire Gin'.
This special evening will allow an insight into the mysterious worlds of brewing and distilling in the company of two of our regions finest exponents.
We shall meet in the lounge (or garden if the weather permits) at 7pm with a view to sitting for dinner at 7.45pm.
The price for this will be £35 per person.
