The Worsley Arms Hotel | The Area | Touring by Car

While there is the option to jump into your walking boots and dum the car, it's not an option for everyone. If you want to drive out, obviously there are all the the towns and attractions mentioned in the other sections, but there are certain 'drives' that we'd recommend.

1.  Dalby Forest Drive

Ideal if you've got a picnic to take. Click here to find out more.

2. The B1257

This is a short drive from Helmsley north to Stokesley, going through wonderful North Yorkshire scenery and via cute little villages. Just watch out for the motorbikes who also love this road.

3. The A 169

The section from Pickering to Whitby is particularly memorable with many viewpoints en route. A favourite is the 'Hole of Horcum' offering fantastic views on a clear day.

4. The B1363

This road goes from the village of Gilling, south to York - get yourself over from Hovingham to Gilling and enjoy a winding trip to the wonderful historic city of York.

5. Hitting the backroads

For any adventurous car tourer, there are thousands of miles of backroads to explore. You'll find many heading off into the wilderness without particularly good signage. We wouldn't recommend you rely to heavily on your satnav either! Take a map with a good level of detail and handsome hamlets and gems of villages will be your reward. Our new favourite is heading from Kirkbymoorside north up to Rosedale abbey. Stunning for those who are willing to brave the single track roads. Take care out there and only go when the conditions are suitable.
