Walking in Hovingham, the Howardian Hills AONB and the North York Moors National Park

The Worsley Arms is an ideal base for any walking holiday or for those who enjoy walking but only as a small part of their visit. We're happy to advise you on the many local walks that you can do right from our doorstep; we particularly like to help those who want to combine a wonderful walk with visiting a local attraction, beauty spot, viewpoint, pub or tea room.

Ask us for our particularly useful PDF leaflet on local walks (see below for downloadable walks).

Being located in the Howardian Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) is a real bonus. The walking here is wonderful, whatever the season and many of the walks can be done from our doorstep, meaning you don't even have to get in your car!

Of course, the North York Moors has an array of published and route-marked walks suitable for all ages and abilities. We'd advise a quick trip to one of the Moors National Park Visitor Centre. the closest of which is at Sutton Bank (stunning viewpoint, lovely walks and great for gliding experiences) - they have a stack of information and will be happy to make suggestions of which walks would be most suitable. They even have an online shop if you want to buy walking guides prior to your visit.

Long distance walks are also available, with the Cleveland Way being amongst the most popular (Helmsley being the closest poin to Hovingham). This is a National Trail and is 109 miles long, starting either in Filey or Helmsley. The Ebor Way passes through Hovingham - click here for details. The Centenary Way also passes our way - click here for the 'e-Book'.

There is also the 'Hovingham Hobble' which starts and finishes in the village. It is a 23 miles circular route that would typically be walked over 2 days. It is not waymarked, but for a route description, click here or for a map, zoom in here (note that these links are not enough to complete the walk - you'll need your own maps and preferably GPS, as this route was written a few years ago). Why not book to stay with us the night before starting and also on completion (to celebrate!)? There are B&Bs near the half-way stage.
